I am having issues with avatars on my forum.

When I or another member uploads a new avatar, they save it, and it will show on their profile page, but it wont show on the widgets in the side bar, nor in posts around the forum.

I have deleted all the caches I have, even the forum user cache and my browser cache too, and so have the other members, but the problem persists. The new avatar is only showing on the profile page, not any where else on the forum.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Hi percysgrowroom,

This is a frustrating issue, but the good news is that avatar display problems across your forum typically stem from a few specific areas. Since you've already cleared caches and the avatar shows on the profile page, we can narrow down the problem. Let me walk you through a systematic troubleshooting approach.

First, check your forum's member profile settings. Based on similar issues reported in your community, there's a critical setting that controls site-wide avatar usage. Navigate to your Dashboard and look for the "Site-wide Usage of Forum Profile Avatar" option—this is typically found under your forum settings in the Member Profile section. Make sure this option is enabled, as disabling it can cause avatars to display inconsistently across different areas of your forum (sidebars, post listings, widgets, etc.). This single setting often resolves the exact symptoms you're describing.

If that setting is already enabled, here are the next steps to try:

  • Clear your server-side caches completely—not just forum caches, but any CDN or server caching layers you might be using
  • Check that your avatar upload directory has proper read/write permissions, and that the thumbnail/cached avatar files are being generated correctly
  • Verify that avatar image files are being saved to the correct directory path that your widgets and post templates are pulling from
  • Test with a fresh browser in incognito/private mode to rule out persistent browser cache issues

Can you confirm whether the "Site-wide Usage of Forum Profile Avatar" setting is currently enabled in your Member Profile settings? Also, are you using any caching plugins or CDN services that might be interfering with dynamic avatar updates?

Yes, that option is already enabled. I have cleared all caches, wp fastest cache, forum cache, redis cache, all of it.

I checked with cloudflare and that doesnt cache anything on my site. So its not that. I cant figure out why it isnt working properly.

@percysgrowroom

Please exclude the wpForo from the Redis Object Cache. This is very important.

@sofy it seems like there isn't a way to exclude pages with redis cache plug in I am using.
