After quite a bit of research I have decided I need to move our association from its current forum application, Asgaros, to WPForo. We have about 5k users and 84k posts over 15 years. Needless to say our users are well familiar with the forum and interface and are resistant to change. What I would like to do is install WPForo in our Wordpress and run it as a beta test for my more active users to explore and hopefully become advocates for the switch. I saw a post somewhere here that WPForo doesn't like to run with another forum application. Are there any hard stops that would prevent this? Anything I need to be aware of?

TIA,

Jerry

Hi,

We have not tested both plugins together, so we cannot determine the exact conflicts you may face. We recommend installing wpForo and making your own tests.

In some cases, conflicts may arise due to URL identifiers, such as both plugins having a '/sign-in/' login page.

We advise you to carefully read the wpForo documentation and make any necessary adjustments before testing. You can find the documentation here: https://wpforo.com/docs/wpforo-v2/.

Additionally, we’ve developed Go2wpForo tool to make it easy to migrate from your old forum software to wpForo. For more information, visit: https://wpforo.com/docs/wpforo-v2/migrate-to-wpforo/

I had the same problem but I decided to change and that's what happened. Currently, we have been on wpforo for a month and while there were critical reviews, now they are starting to praise it very much and I am extremely happy with the move. It's like changing your phone, everyone will be dissatisfied at the beginning because they got used to it over the last 15 years and that's it.

That is what I am seeing as well. I invited some of my most active users to this beta test. There were some questions and comparisons but now they are praising it and wanting to know what's next. I am still evaluating but I think this is the direction we want to go. I have a few other questions but I will start a new thread for those. I like that the support and others seem pretty responsive here.

[Edit] I forgot to comment on my subject! Yes, I am running this in parallel with our original forum (Asgaros) on the same server and Wordpress installation. I am not seeing any URL conflicts and I really like how seamless WPForo has used the Wordpress user database so all my users already have accounts and can post. I don't have to ask everyone to re-register and create new passwords.
