I'd like to show latest topics/recent replies on my custom, NON-forum, home page. NOT a widget, but hopefully some code or shortcode. Is this possible? Thanks!

It would be easier to create a custom sidebar on home page and use the "Recent Topic" and "Recent Posts" widgets instead of shortcodes (there is no such shortcodes).
