Hi all,

I am weighing up using WPForo vs Buddypress. One of the key functionalities I need is for my members to be able to perform an easy member search where they can search by similar interests but most importantly location. A bit like the GEO my WP. Would this work with WPForo and is there an alternative?

Thanks

@jellybelly2019,

wpForo + wpForo User Custom Fields addon combo will be similar ike BuddyPress. Using this addon you can customize user registration, account, profile and member search fields. You can add "Country" field in Member search form as well. Please find this addon here: https://gvectors.com/product/wpforo-user-custom-fields/

Hello. Thanks so much for your reply. You can search by country but is there a way to search more specifically, e.g ‘member x is within a 10 mile radius’?

many thanks!

I'm sorry but not. You can create new custom field for Cities or for Regions to find people in your city or region, but you can't add function to detect location and find near geo-located member.

Popping this back up from extinction. Is this something that can be added to the "to look at" list? While I can add another location dropdown to account for a state, region, or city, this lists won't be tied to other selections. So, basically every list would have to be fully comprehensive. A full list of every country, a full list of every state or region for every country (not separated by country), and then the cities list would be unimaginable.

And while I recognize that I could just make these text fields instead of dropdown lists, that just leads to people putting information in differently and the search not being as effective.
