In a previous topic it was suggested that the best way to prevent users from editing their profile was to set the "Min number of posts to be able to edit profile" setting to a very large number. I have set this to 1000, but members who have not created any posts at all can still edit their profiles within the forum without any difficulty.
This applies both to accounts which existed before I activated wpForo and those I have added since.
What might I be doing wrong? Presumably there is some other setting which I have overlooked.

Here are some troubleshooting steps to investigate what might be going wrong:
- Verify the setting is actually saved: After setting the value to 1000, make sure you've clicked the save button and that the setting persists when you navigate away and return to that settings page. Sometimes settings don't save properly due to permission issues or plugin conflicts.
- Check user post counts: Verify that the users you're testing with actually have 0 posts recorded in the system. Sometimes posts might be counted differently than expected, or there could be a discrepancy between what's displayed and what's in the database. Check the user profile to confirm their post count is truly zero.
- Review user roles and capabilities: Check if these users have any special roles or capabilities that might override the restriction. Administrators and moderators sometimes have exceptions built into the system that allow them to edit profiles regardless of post count.
- Test with a fresh browser session: Clear your browser cache and cookies, or test from an incognito/private window to rule out any caching issues that might be affecting what you're seeing.
- Check for conflicting plugins: If you have other plugins installed that interact with user profiles or permissions, they might be interfering with this wpForo setting. Try temporarily deactivating other plugins to see if the restriction then works as expected.
Can you confirm whether the setting value is actually persisting when you save it? Also, which user roles are you testing with—are they standard members, or do they have any elevated permissions?

Let me address each of your points in turn.
- Yes, I logged out and logged back in again and the setting is still set to 1000.
- Yes, this is an entirely new forum which I have only recently installed and not yet made available to others. There are only two posts in total, both test ones from me and I have several test accounts which haven't posted at all. See the relevant entries for two of these below.
- Again, I have checked this and I can't find anything special. As you can see from the image above they are just members of group "Registered".
- I tried from a private window and it didn't make any difference.
- I don't have a huge number of other plugins, but I disabled all the ones that might have anything to do with permissions or profiles and it didn't make any difference.
I do note that there is an small line in the Spam settings which reads:
These options don't affect users whose Usergroup has "Can edit member" and "Can pass moderation" permissions.
Can you expand on what this means? Is this a logical AND (i.e. if both settings are active then it doesn't work)? I don't think that this is actually the issue, because I have checked and both of the settings are cleared for "Registered" users.

We’ve checked this on our test websites, but we’re not able to reproduce the issue.
Could you please provide us with your forum URL so we can register a test account and check the issue directly on your website?
Regarding the note in the Spam Settings, the “Can edit member” permission allows users with that permission to edit other members’ profiles. The “Can pass moderation” permission allows them to bypass certain moderation restrictions. These permissions are relevant to the spam-related restrictions mentioned in that note and are not related to the “Min number of posts to be able to edit profile” setting.
Hello and thank you for your offer to check further. Firstly, a few notes about how I have tested this.
My new forum on my live site is running wpForo 3.2.1 on WP 6.8.10.
My test site is running wpForo 3.1.7 on WP 7.1.2
I have a friend who is helping me and he has a test install on a local VM with wpForo 3.1.5 on WP 6.8.3. I don't believe that he has any other plugins installed at all.
All three installations show the same problem. It is very mysterious!
My forum is for a private club so I don't have external account creation enabled. Further, I am reluctant to give the URL here on a public forum. Would it be possible for you to email me via the address I used to register on this forum with an email address you would like to use for a test account. I can then create the account and send you a password reset email. Would you like the account to be in the Admin usergroup so that you can see and adjust settings? I could also set up an account in the Registered group for you to test if that would be useful.
I have no problem with all other discussion of this problem being on this forum topic so that others can see it.

I have set up a user for you and sent an email as requested. This is a multisite installation so I believe that you will have received two emails. One to set a password and the other to be added to the relevant child site.
Could you please provide screenshots of the relevant options in the wpForo settings?
