I've been posting about an existing problem with changing nicknames. Most people began in the forum using their username as their nickname. This is a real security issue as that is half of their login. AND when you reply to someone's post, the nickname (as url identifier) shows up in the post. Again a security issue.

I can change the nickname in the USER page on the WordPress side of things and it sticks there but does not transfer over to WPforo side for the nickname. The display name changes but the URL identifier does not.

Because of an existing glitch in the system, we are prevented from changing the nickname (and subsequently the url identifier when replying to posts) in our forum on the Profile page . I had been able to modify the profile page without problems up until recently. With the last change, the Profile page required to change the password in order to make any changes. Even as an administrator. So I cannot fix the nickname. And now I am not sure whether the system even allows you to change the URL identifier. So what is the fix for this security issue? Usernames cannot be changed so what is the alternative.

AND this is a continuation of two other threads because someone has closed those threads so I could not reply or add on additional information. If there is a way to re-open a thread, I do not know it.

I hope this is clear. Thanks.

Hi @aggie,

When you change the nickname, it also changes the URL. Just delete all caches, then delete wpForo cache in Dashboard > Forums > Dashboard admin page by clicking on [Delete all caches] button.

So, there is no any security issue, you just need to change your nickname. This is the WordPress working logic, so wpForo don't have any affection. Just make sure you've changed the nickname in forum My Profile > Account page and deleted all cache like I mentioned above.

I got it to work for my profile but you still need to change the password in order to make the change. That requirement will be fixed with this new update. Correct?

And will I need to connect with all users to change their nickname as an admin I will not be able to do that for them? As there will still be a need to input the password to modify the Profile page but not change it?

Thanks.

sure, this will be fixed.

You can change the user's nickname as an admin as well as the regular members.

As there will still be a need to input the password to modify the Profile page but not change it?

No necessary.
