Suddenly Wordpress is acting on me and give me error 404 on all pages (but Wp-admin pages), as long as I use the document name permalink. It does work ok if I setup "simple" permalink, but obviously NOT the forum itself.

So my question is double sided: is there any way to modify the type of permalinks used by the forum (which I doubt) OR what would be the proper way to eradicate this 404 error and make Wordpress recognize my links normally again ?

Hi,

Seems you've enabled the 'Turn WordPress to wpForo' option. Please carefully read this documentation on how to configure your website when this option is enabled: https://wpforo.com/docs/wpforo-v2/getting-started/forum-page/turn-wordpress-to-wpforo/

If you don’t need a standalone forum, simply disable this option.

@sofy Thanks for your answer. I don't believe I used this option. Wanting to check, I looked for this Board/Modules in my wpForo menu, and have been unable to find it. Instead, I saw  "Forums" twice , so I thought I would uninstall wpForo to install it back.

Problem is, I can't uninstall wpForo. It tells me I can't because of the Advanced Attachments plugin BUT I did uninstall it. On my site, which is in French, the plugin installed as "Pièces Jointes Avancées". It looks like the system still find an English entry.

How can I fix this, as it seems "something" is wrong in my wpForo installation. I could just delete the directory from the file system, but I worry it would leave "something" in the database which should be cleaned.

What is the best way for me to proceed ?

Please see this screenshot; it will help you easily find the Boards menu.

Please provide us with some screenshots so we can better understand the problem.

If you uninstall wpForo, all information will be lost—you will remove all forum data, options, and tables.

@sofy Thanks for your answer. I did manage to uninstall WpForo, which did not solve the problem, and maybe created a new one...

First, screen shot of WpForo menu on my computer.

Looks like I can add just one screen shot at a time.

Now, my new display problem. It looks like some links to avatars and icons have been lost. Maybe some tables or keys need to be rebuilt in the database ?

@sofy Sure / Here it is : Votre avis, SVP ? - Annonces Générales - Forum Le Bear CNC

But you can see the problem directly form the forum page Forum Le Bear CNC - Le Bear CNC & 3D

A number of "mini avatar" are missing.

We don't see a 404 page error.

The avatars are not being displayed because they do not exist in the file system. You may have moved or missed some files.

@sofy Thank you for your answer. Looks I had a problem when restoring the site. I asks my users to "refresh" their avatars, it seems to work.

I have another problem, which might be linked. I can't see wpForo emoticons. I reinstalled the plugin, thinking it was some links erased/changed, but even after reinstalling, the result is the same:

What would be the process to restore this plugin properly ?

The translation in your case is incorrect—both 'Boards' and 'Forum' were translated as 'Forums.'

Regarding emoticons, follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to Dashboard > wpForo > Boards admin page.
  2. Hover over the board.
  3. Once it's hovered, you'll see the "Repair link"—click it and wait for the process to finish.
  4. Delete all caches and check again.

I had not thought about translations, thank you.
For emoticons, "Repair" seems to be very quick, but does not work. I deleted all caches, then enabled a color I had not enabled yet (in parameters/plugins), to see if it makes a difference, and it's not displaying properly. Still the "missing image" icon, like on previously enabled colors.

Is there a sql command I could send in the database to modify/restore these links ?

A few minutes later.... I had a quick look in the database where wp_wpforo_smilegroups show the paths where the smileys should be. Checking on my server, wp_content/uploads/wpforo/emoticons, instead of having sub-directories for the different colors, contains only index.html and robots.txt. So, even if I reinstalled the plugin a few days ago, I don't have any icon in my system.

So now the question is: how do I install these icons on my system ?

Problem solved ! I just extruded the plugin's zip file locally, then exported the content of "packages" to the proper directory on my server. Asking you the question leaded me directly to the solution ...
