Is there a way to set some forums to have post approval on and others not ?
Maybe this can help you or give some ideas. 🙂
This doesnt say anything about setting up post approvals, i don't want someone to be blocked from posting I just want someone to approve the post in a particular forum before it gets published like most other forum solutions have
The wpForo comes with a built-in moderation system, and by default, moderation is enabled. When new users create a post with content containing URLs or attached images that resemble spam, the post is automatically unapproved. It requires moderation and approval to be published publicly. wpForo also has built-in integration with Akismet antispam to enhance spam detection.

can I just ask if it’s possible to have permanent moderation for posting in some areas and then not others?

You need to uncheck the checkbox "Front - Can pass moderation"
