Hi @jimdoneit,

I'm sorry but we don't follow you well. Please try to explain using some screenshots.

hi.

there's this subject text area atop a post, where you can type a title. but when you confirm the post, the title is not displayed.

see 2 screenshots attached: on top title being edited, and below post being displayed.

cheers.

@jimdoneit,

Thank you for clarification.

This is designed and work in this way.

thanks for your reply.

i think wpForo is a great plug-in but if the issue i brought up here is the result of a design decision in my opinion it's a design mistake.

first it is inconsistent with your sidebar widget which does display the content of that subject field.

second it is inconsistent with the fact that you are offering this text field to the user: he/she normally expects to see it in the post display.

i suppose the idea is that the subject of a post is the topic to which it was posted. therefore you should just remove this field to avoid any confusion.

just my 2 bits. you're doing a great job.

cheers.

@jimdoneit,

The title field is designed to be shown on lists of posts like Recent Posts Widget, Recent Posts Page, Profile Subscription, Profile Activity, Recent Posts under the topic in Extended Layout and so on. So, there is not any inconsistent. The post title field is used on lots of places, but in the topic. There is no mean to show the same title dozens of times in the topic. In 99% cases people don't change post title and it's the same. That's why we don't show it in the topic.

But there are many good reasons why we show it in the above mentioned places. The first reason to have a link titles to that post and the second to have a bold/normal title to show unread/read status of that post. All these reasons are meaningless in the topic, that's why they are not shown there.

thanks for your reply Robert, but i don't agree.

you can get exactly the same behavior you describe by removing the subject field in the posts and displaying the topic title in the recent posts. it will be more consistent and less confusing for the users

cheers.

@jimdoneit,

I'm not sure what behavior you mean. I've just provided information where you can see post titles and how they are important and how it's pointless to show post tile in the topic. We still allow editing and add custom title to replies and it’s good.

BTW, this is a popular and very good practice in all popular forum solutions (e.g. vBulletin, XenForo).

@robert

i'm talking about the behavior you describe. and the whole world may be wrong, you don't have to follow.

what happens if you don't have that field anymore ? you consistently apply the topic title to all related posts. apparently that's what you are arguing for.

and i think it's the way to go. so that when a user clicks on the reference of a post in the widget, he doesn't wonder where the title has gone: it will be the topic's.

anyway, i think we're getting into a loop here. wpForo is great, let's leave it at that.

cheers.
