Hi I'm very new to setting up forums, I can't get these to work and display either, on the built in pages, or custom URL's

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

You should not setup login and register pages. Once wpForo is activated you should find them on forum Top Menu bar. Make sure you're logged out. Because the Login and Register menus are only available for guests.

I set up wpforo last week for first time.  People are being shown two links - one is correct. The second links them to my dashboard!  Almost all the people who registered were unable to get their passwords even though they were registered.  It wasn't in their spam folder.  One Most were able to get into the forum once I went into the dashboard and generated them a new password. But one person still cannot.  And I'm probably losing a ton of possible members.  Please help me. Thanks.

When I was testing WPforo, I ran into many issues that weren't really caused by WPForo directly.

Ultimately, I needed to switch to using Sendgrid SMTP for emails to be reliably delivered. In addition, I purchased a plugin called Profile Builder Pro, which allows me to add custom registration forms, redirect users away from my WP dashboard/WP login/WP forgot password screen, and created a custom page for password retrieval and registration.

The way WordPress handles email isn't really meant for what we're using it for.

One advantage to using Sendgrid is that you can set it up to use your website domain as the sender, which immediately solved any emails going to the spam folder issues I was having (by nearly every user).

Thanks, VeganOstomy,  for you suggestions.  I'll see if that works. -- Best wishes to you.
