I have it set to manually approve the first post on the forum, and it is not working... It used to work fine before updating to 3.0.

I turned off spam control and tested it and still not working.

I have deleted user cache... Not sure what else to check.

As one more note on this subject, I do use Akismet so I also disabled this plugin and tested it, but that didn't affect anything and still let a new user post without going to manually approve the first post.

Hi @jasontoth,

Please enable back the disabled Spam Control. Please always keep the Spam Control enabled if you're using spam control features.

Also, make sure the user you're testing is doesn't have permission to approve/unapprove posts, so you should test with regular users. Check their usergroups (by default the Registered) and make sure they don't have moderator permissions. Do not uncheck the "Can Pass Moderation" permission, it'll always make posts of the user unapproved.

And please make sure the current user doesn't have any approved posts. I'd recommend to create a fresh registered/subscriber user and test the first topic and or post.

@Robert I am having a similar problem.  A new user bypassed moderation even though I have spam control for first three (just moved it to Five) posts. I will also try to debug in the website dashboard and will open a new ticket with support.

@jeanne,

This should be fixed in 3.0.4 version, please update. Also make sure the Spam Protection is enabled.

Dear @robert

I have updated to 3.0.3 to see if this helped and still not working. I have filled out a support ticket. In the meantime when I check a search I get:

If wpForo's "hard spam control" for new user post moderation is failing, ensure the default usergroup ("Registered") has "Front - Can pass moderation" disabled in Usergroups settings, clear the cache, and ensure the Spam Protection settings (specifically "Posts must be manually approved") are active. Recent issues have been reported following the 3.0 update.

I thought you had said it should be enabled... Let me know if I should try turning it off again.

Best,

Jason Toth

@jasontoth,

The update was not necessary. If you have created a ticket then please wait for the response. Your issue will be resolved by the person who are helping in the ticket. We'll probably release a new version and let you know if this is not a site specific problem.
