I have wpforo v 3.2.2 and I've realized that users cannot add files on responses, only on new topics.

Even administrators can't upload files, since there's no button for it.

I've checked users permissions, groups and spam settings and everything seems OK.

Any help with this?

Hi sinjania,

That's definitely frustrating! The issue where file attachments work for new topics but not for replies is a known limitation in some forum configurations. Based on the documentation, the "Attach file" button should appear below both topic and post editors, so let's work through some systematic troubleshooting steps to identify what's preventing it from showing on replies.

Here's a step-by-step approach to diagnose and resolve this issue:

  1. Verify File Attachment Permissions: Log in as an administrator and navigate to your wpForo settings. Check that file attachments are enabled globally for both topics and replies. Sometimes these settings are toggled separately.
  2. Check User Group Permissions: Even though you've already reviewed this, double-check the specific user groups that are having issues. Ensure that "Can attach files to posts" or similar permission is enabled for the groups in question. Test with your administrator account first to rule out group-level restrictions.
  3. Verify Allowed File Types: Confirm that your WordPress installation hasn't restricted file uploads. The default allowed extensions include images (jpg, jpeg, png, gif, webp), documents (pdf, doc, docx, xls, xlsx, ppt, pptx, txt), archives (zip, rar, 7z), and media files (mp3, mp4, webm). Check if WordPress's own upload settings might be interfering.
  4. Inspect the Reply Editor: When creating a reply, look carefully below the text editor. The "Attach file" button should be visible just like it is when creating a new topic. If it's completely missing, this suggests a display or permission issue rather than a configuration problem.
  5. Test with a Fresh Browser Session: Clear your browser cache and try again in an incognito/private window to rule out any cached interface issues.
  6. Check for Plugin Conflicts: If you have other plugins active, temporarily deactivate them (except wpForo) to see if another plugin is interfering with the attachment functionality on replies.

If you've gone through these steps and the button still isn't appearing on replies specifically, this might be a bug specific to version 3.2.2. Have you considered checking if there's a newer version of wpForo available, or reaching out to the wpForo support team with your version number and exact reproduction steps? They may have a patch or workaround for this specific scenario.
