Nothing was / is wrong with 1.9.x or with wpforo 2. Your issues come from poor hosting setup and things you have installed and probably some bad plugins.
Someone must help you out or if you want, restore 1.9.x that worked smooth as you posted.

So, again i ask, do you use ANY SECURITY plugin? Or does your server has any server-wide security plugin (imunify360 for example)?
Anything that blocks bots? Logins brute force? etc etc

Something changed in those versions that makes this happen, a clash with a plug in, the server, something, the previous version all worked fine with what i have, this only happens with the 2 newest versions.

How do i find and fix the problem though, that's the mission. Surely there is an easy way to find out what's causing the problem.
Will the debug not give mroe info and give us some idea of where to look?
The host said this when asked for 1k connections:
"1000 is way too high and if the allow connections are reached, VPS would crash. We are getting it checked and we will increase gradually if required"

You keep saying that and i BET memory and depreciated issues were there and you didn't know it.
Not to mention the DB max_connections.
All those issues were there and you didn't know. Maybe wpForo versions were more demanding and DB issues became more serious.
Still not wpForo problem. You did run your MariaDB with 100 max connections (default). That is the issue. Solved from what i see.
So lets move to the other issues. Until debug log is EMPTY.
@dimalifragis Sorry man, dont get me wrong, im not saying 2.0 is broken, im saying thats what caused the issues. I need to find those issues so my site works well with 2.0 like everyone elses seems to, thats all. Wpofor is not to blame for sure, its my own problems that need fixing. I am just saying something was changed in those version that differ enough from 1.9.1 to caus ethese issues. I am not trying to place blame with them
