Let's kill some Spam! Finally wpForo got built-in Spam Control and Filtering functions. They are under active development and the first version is already available with wpForo 1.2.0. IMPORTANT - Spam File Attachments! Once wpForo is updated, please navigate to Dashboard > Forums > Tools admin page and check the "Possible Spam Attachments" section. We detected massive Spam file uploading cases in non-protected forums. Spammers delete their topics and posts but uploaded Spam files are still in your file system, most of those are PDF files. You're not alone! Please note that all WordPress websites are under hard Spam attack. Spam is everywhere! It doesn't matter you use wpForo or not. If you enabled user registration then wait for Spams... wpForo doesn't handle user registration and doesn't have any affection on number of Spam registrations. All processes of user registration are still performed by your WordPress core functions. So you should find solutions to protect WordPress not wpForo. Human Spam cannot be stopped. You can stop only robot Spam. Please remember, not all Spams are robo ...

RE: Deleting a post hides the topic from the forum. | 36 Relevance | 2 years ago | Surlofia | Bug Reports
@robert I would like to add a note about "reasons not to leave unapproved submissions unattended."In addition to the previous reason, there are several reasons from an administrator's perspective as well. - A large number of Spam is written every day, so if it is not deleted while it is unapproved, the administrators and moderators will have a large number of unapproved posts, which will be operationally inconvenient for them (of course, they are taking the recommended anti-spam measures). - The number of Spam users is increasing daily, and there are ne ...
"Spam Suspicion Level for Topics" | 34 Relevance | 4 weeks ago | antuan | How-to and Troubleshooting
In "Spam Suspicion Level for Topics" and the tutorial: wpForo Spam Control This is a core Spam detecting function which works based on the level of Spam suspicion. We recommend keep this option enabled and set the suspicion level from 20 to 60. This system checks all posts of Spammers, then compare them, and then it tries to understand whether they are Spam or not. If you enable “Ban user when Spam is suspected” option, then you should periodically check the users’ status and make sure the banned user is a Spammer, because there is no way to automatically ...

Hey mrpoohead123 To help prevent Spam in the registration form, there are a few great plugins you can use: Akismet: It's a popular anti-spam plugin that works well with wpForo. It automatically filters out Spammy registrations and comments. Make sure you have an API key to activate it. reCAPTCHA by Google: Adding a reCAPTCHA to your registration form is a solid way to deter bots. You can use plugins like WP reCAPTCHA Integration or Advanced noCaptcha & Invisible Captcha to implement it easily. Antispam Bee: This is another excellent plugin, esp ...
RE: Second time hacked forum | 33 Relevance | 1 year ago | Robert | Bug Reports
Hi @annushka, Spam is not a bug. And a bug cannot cause Spam. Spam is a worldwide issue. All WordPress website s are under Spam attacks and the Spam comes to forum from your WordPress. This is not a wpForo bug. There is not a bug which can be fixed to prevent Spam. Again, the plugin I suggest is the best solution that we use in all our forums. But you should collect Spammy words and use them in the plugin to detect and stop Spam. next time when you get Spammed copy and save some Spam posts and find most popular words in the Spam posts to use in the plugin.

Not all topics and posts become Unapproved. Only Spam suspected entries are going for moderation. Please install Aksimet to make this wpForo Spam Control more intuitive. Spam suspicion level can be decreased in Dashboard > Forums > Tools > Antispam admin page to something like this: Spam Suspicion Level for Topics: 30 Spam Suspicion Level for Posts: 30 Also if the topic (first post) is unapproved, all posts of this topic becomes automatically unapproved (post author doesn't matter). Because you can't see a post if the topic is unapproved. Yo ...

Spam is a big problem that cannot be totally eliminated. You can mitigate it, but human Spam (not automatic bots) are virtually impossible to totally stop. There are certain things you can do to greatly reduce Spam, but oftentimes these things also might prevent legitimate site users from interacting with it normally if you are not careful. Check this out for instructions on how to help with Spam in wpForo: WHAT I HAVE DONE Another thing I have found to help prevent Spam greatly is making it, so registration on your site is not possible using the trad ...
RE: Moderation Now Appearing | 30 Relevance | 8 years ago | Robert | How-to and Troubleshooting
You can approve new topic and posts in Dashboard > Forums > Moderation admin page. This works like WP native comment approving process. If wpForo suspect some topic as Spam it makes unapproved to allow you review before it becomes published on forum. Only Spam suspected topics and replies become unapproved, and only new registered users topic and posts are under Spam control. Please read new wpForo 1.2.0 release changelog before updating and using it: I'd recommend decrease Spam control level instead of turn it off. Navigate in Dashboard to Forums ...

@janjan, Human Spam cannot be stopped. You can stop only robot Spam. Please remember, not all Spams are robots. So you'll still have 1-5 Spam registered users per day even if you use all antispam solutions around the world. Because those solutions are made to detect robots. Human Spam cannot be 100% stopped. There are lots of people who earn money for manual registration in forums and for posting Spam content. So if you have less than 5 Spam users posts per day, it means your forum is protected very well! 99% of bot Spams are already stopped. You only have ...

... for newly registered user. 5) Set to NO. 6) Scroll down at the bottom and click the Update Options. I think doing this will send emails to you when a New User registers. As far as the existing users who have registered on your forum, and have not posted anything yet, you can check each one and then just delete those who have not posted anything yet. If they register again, then you will receive notification. (That's what I do on my forums once I cross check IP addresses with known Spammers). Suggestion on how to eliminate/limit Profiles SPAM | 27 Relevance | 3 years ago | dimalifragis | General Discussions
A lot of webmasters struggle with fake user registrations just to create Spam Profiles. I see several people here asking for help on that. There are solutions for Wordpress but i guess most webmasters can't or won't try security plugins, for their own reasons. So i would like to suggest two OPTIONAL settings for wpForo Profiles. 1. New users can't fill/create a profile unless they participate with XXX posts. Why someone create a profile if he has no posts? The ONLY reason is for Spam link from some other site (backlinks). 2. New users can't fill/create a ... |
