WPForo with Varnish | 68 Relevance | 5 years ago | quentinb | How-to and Troubleshooting
Hello there, Got a little issue with your plugin working along with varnish. Obviously here's what I got while testing if varnish is properly working on my site : (attach file) I tried to disabled features from wpForo or find a way to limit the set-cookies to only Forum pages but nothing works so far (maybe I'm missing something). Here's the "curl -I myurl.com" result : HTTP/2 200 cache-control: public, max-age=600content-type: text/html; charset=UTF-8link: < rel="https://api.w.org/"link: < rel=shortlinkserver: nginxset-cookie: SESSacc65 ...

... doesn't come from somewhere else. When I deactivate WPForo and inspect the site with dev-tools, none of the regular (non-WPForo) pages show a PHPSESSID cookie and varnish cache says HIT. Caching works. When I re-activate WPForo, the same regular (non-WPForo) pages now load a PHPSESSID cookie and varnish cache says MISS. Caching doesn't work. This is still happening after changing the suggested code and clearing all the caches including the browser cache. I do see however, that after changing the suggested code, the green message bubbles in the top ...

@Anonymous20 Cloudways cache de is a header which is passed when breeze and varnish work together. Even though I excluded the forum from being cached in both breeze and varnish, there recommendation was to totally disable breeze and varnish if I want the Cloudways cache de to stop functioning. This may or may not solve the problem with my forum, but if it does, the trade off will be a slower loading of pages, one reason I went to Cloudways in the first place. Although, testing is not a bad thing. So, I am going to fully disable Breeze and varnish caches a ...

@sofy, It's better to exclude wpForo forum page from the varnish, here is a good article: wpForo has its own cache system, so you should exclude it from all cache solutions. Here is the FAQ topic:

In varnish status page, it says some plugin is setting the cache-header to disabled or something. So caching is not happening on varnish.

I contacted my host and here is his answer: "Unfortunately, there is no such exclusion on our side. The solution would otherwise be to place your forum on a subdomain instead of a subfolder so that it is not impacted by varnish." Is this solution possible according to you?

@robert I am not using Cloudways. I am using Godaddy + Cloudflare + W3 total cache plugin. Here are what i have done: 1. except /community/* page from W3 total cache plugin (Database + Page + Browser and all), 2. Bypass cache /community/* page from cloudflare cache The only thing i do not know is, how can i exlude /community/* in varnish. You recommendation is correct if the user is using cloudways only. Any advise? Thanks!

I think varnish is not controlled by a WP Plugin and we are not talking about a caching plugin. So, your hosting provider could help more on this, on how to exclude wpForo pages and test.

... on the amazing job you guys do. I also bought almost all your add-ons when I first started using the plugin, just to support you guys (and because the add-ons are great of course) and I will keep doing that for as long as I use the plugin. That being said, I hope my efforts can help me have a faster website for my visitors, maybe help the plugin be even more amazing, and potentially help a lot of users of the WPForo plugin to better understand this issue with caching that they might experience without even knowing it. It took me months to figure out why m ... |
