I have read up and enabled user registration in WP and for the Forum. Still not able to get a verification email sent. When the user puts in his or her desired user name, email and verifies that they are not a robot it just flashes the page and does nothing.

Hi xjnash,
Please navigate to Dashboard > Forums > Settings > Features admin page and make sure you've enabled "Enable User Registration email confirmation" option.
If that's already enabled try to deactivate all plugins especially Antispam, captcha and user related plugins.
If it doesn't help just change the theme.
This issue has no direct relation to wpForo, this is WorPpress or other plugins issue.
