90% of spam CAN be blocked BEFORE registering/loging in. It is wrong to try to fight SPAM and profile SPAM, AFTER a user has registered. A waste of time.
I assume you are in the same situation, we are having trouble with the remaining 10%.
For example, if we have 30 spam registrations daily on our forum, even if we successfully block 27 of them, if we miss 3, those 3 will post a lot of spam.

But do you have so much spam?
There are some tools in wpForo for that. For spam. Enable them. For example moderate posts for new users until they reach xxx ammount of posts. Or even moderate new signups.
You can't be 100% spam free. Still i ask, why your site ATTRACTS spammers? Think about it. Is it so popular? Or do you have some ALREADY spammed topics and spammers find it?

We find the bot blocking quite effective.

Shield Security plugin is not well known in Japan, so we would never have discovered it on our own.
