Hi, I read on some older posts here that there would be a hide replies by default feature in the wpforo forums newer versions.  I just wondered whether this has happened and how to implement it?  I think I need to have the extended layout for my forum to function properly but it will get a little bit confusing for users when the forum is more active, to see all responses to the first post and replies to subsequent comments all at the same time.  Any way to hide replies to comments or at least minimise them by default? Thanks for your help.

Hi,

We're really sorry, wpForo doesn't have such a feature.

I recommend purchasing pro support and reaching out to the support team for customizations: https://wpforo.com/pro-support/#customization

@sofy I have to say, I'm a little bit confused as this forum that we are speaking on now has the feature that I'm looking for?! So there must be a way to do this surely?

Could you please share screenshots showing the feature you are referring to?

@sofy I have attached a screenshot of the reply button on this conversation.  You can click the replies button to hide them and they are all slightly off to the right to differentiate between the first post and replies.  My forum has sub categories within a main category and the replies don't show up this way and it doesn't appear to let me change the layout within them.

@paul

For the current forum, we use the wpForo Threaded Layout. Please read this doc:  https://wpforo.com/docs/wpforo-v2/categories-and-forums/forum-layouts/threaded-layout/

Actually, wpForo has many features and options. For example, it has 4 layouts you can choose the one you prefer:

So, please read the documentation to determine the optimal configuration for your forum preferences.

@sofy Thanks for your help.  Unfortunately because of the sub topics in my forum, it looks like I have to use extended layout, and it appears I can't make each sub topic in the threaded format, is this correct?  If so, is there any code that can be used to make sure replies to posts are hidden?  I think it will become a bit of a mess with comments and @user popping up randomly everywhere if not.  It would be nice to see the replies to a particular comment on request and in order to see the conversation develop.

I’m not sure I understand what you mean by 'sub topics'?

Please carefully review the documentation. Categories serve as the top-level parent forums, designed to group similar forums into separate sections on the forum homepage.

In wpForo, forums can be displayed using various layouts (Extended, Simplified, Q&A, or Threaded). These layouts are inherited from the parent category. Therefore, if you need to change a forum's layout, you must adjust the layout of its top-level parent category. In other words, the layout of a forum depends on the layout of its top-level category (blue panels) and cannot be set independently.

For more information, please visit:  https://wpforo.com/docs/wpforo-v2/categories-and-forums/categories-and-forums/

@sofy Sorry, I guess I'm not using the correct wpforo lingo.  I have categories each with a number of more specific forums within them.  The extended layout is definitely the best looking/easiest to navigate for my site, so I'd like to keep that (The parent/category is set to this).  The problem I have is with each forum within the category.  If somebody clicks 'reply' to a certain topic posted, the reply just shows at the bottom of all posts, not underneath the original post that has been replied to.  So I was wondering if there is a way to make the replies show under the relevant post/ appear hidden until some form of 'show replies' button is clicked?  Seems strange to me that they'd just show up at the bottom of the list of posts as opposed to next to the post that is being replied to.  I hope that makes sense!

Hi @paul

If you want to have the Category Layout (Extended) but replay posts like Threaded Layout you can have a look at this topic.

>> how to use Category Layout (Extended) but my replay post like Threaded

Is an old topic for wpForo version 1.x.x,

For version 2.x.x

Copy forum.php file from wpForo plugin folder: /wp-content/plugins/wpforo/wpf-themes/2022/layouts/1/
