I see the following in the sidebar recent topics / posts widgets:

When a new topic is added, it is both listed as a New Topic (ok) and also as a New Post.

Is that by design ? And if so, why ?

Thanks !

I guess the first post in a topic is still a post. But I know what you mean. Sometimes both lists have the same things in them if a handful of new topics have been created and none have yet had a reply.

If the new posts widget could somehow exclude the first post in a new topic this would fix things but I have no idea if the wpForo guys can do that.

@Sam

Got it and you are probably right.

Still the url link is different, for the same url. Is that normal to the eyes of search engines ? aka Google.

In mine the link is the same. The post links just have #anchor on the end to jump down the page to the specific location of that post within the topic (which is effectively the page).

So this topic is:  https://wpforo.com/community/how-to-and-troubleshooting-2/recent-topic-post-widgets-inconsistency

And the first post within that is:  https://wpforo.com/community/how-to-and-troubleshooting-2/recent-topic-post-widgets-inconsistency/#post-11890

They are not different "pages". #post-11890 is a location within the page itself. Therefore, Google etc. should view it as the same thing.

Same to me. Some #anchor at the end. I guess you are right.
