I want the users on my forum to not have a first and lastname, only using the nickname to display as. Is this possible without plugins or would the "Custom User Fields" solve this problem?

I'm using the User Custom Fields AddOn for wpForo and with it, you have complete control over which fields you want to use. You can customize the Register Form; the Account Form; the Profile Page, and even the Member Search Form.
You can add and remove fields (such as first name, last name, etc.) as needed.

That doesn't seem to answer my question, it doesn't have to be synchronized with the core User fields.
I'm just asking it is possible to remove the first and lastname fields and only show one name, alternatively only removing the lastname.
