MY installation of WPforo is within a WordPress site where we create the users and their profile. I need to restrict the entry of information into My Profile and prevent the users from changing

  • Display Name
  • Nickname
  • email
  • Title
  • password

Until I can restrict these entries I cannot allow them permission to make changes to anything else e.g. add an Avatar because all of these settings are controlled centrally to ensure all systems are looking at the same bit of data.

I hope that you can provide a way to all access to the My Account but prevent entry to the fields above

Thanks

Iain Morrison

Hi,

You can adjust the "Min number of posts to be able to edit profile information" option located in Dashboard > wpForo > Settings > Spam Protection. Consider setting it to 10,000 or a greater value.

I have already set the post approvals to 10000 which has temporarily protected the fields however users want to be able to set an avatar which is also restricted by setting the 10000 post limit

There must be a way to do this, how can I speak direct to @wpforo-support to find a way to do this?

I'm sorry but I cannot follow you what exactly you're looking for. If you don't want your users to edit their profile fields then you should be already good with "Min number of posts to be able to edit profile information" option. There is no way to control each user field separately. You should whether allow or not allow editing the profile field.

That is very disappointing.

I think it is clear in my post that I do not want the users to be able to change the fields that I mention from within WPForo because the fields are WordPress fields and changing them would have an effect on other uses of the fields.

A blanket prevention of editing fields using such a crude method is unhelpful

@009webmaster,

Setting a large number for the option is a robust and reliable solution. It works, so I want to understand the issue. Is the problem with this approach, or does it simply not do exactly what you're looking for?
