Subject: Support ticket: Registered Users Bypassing Moderation – Possible Bug in v3.0.3
Robert,
I’m also experiencing an issue with moderation settings in wpForo (version 3.0.3) that allows new users to bypass moderation, despite my configuration.
Here is what is happening:
- The Usergroup: "Registered" has by default that enables all registered users (and subscriber roles) to bypass moderation.
- I cannot turn this off even though in Spam control, I require first 5 posts to be moderated.
To confirm this, I:
- Created a test user using an incognito browser session
- Registered as a new user
- Was able to post immediately without any moderation
It appears that the issue may be related to the “Registered” Usergroup permissions, specifically the setting (that cannot currently be changed by me, as admin) that allows users to bypass moderation.
I also attempted to use the Debug tool as suggested in the wpForo community forum:
- Entered both the username and numeric user ID
- Received a message that the user does not exist, even though the user clearly does exist in the system
So I have two concerns:
- New users are automatically bypassing moderation; and I cannot change that in Registered Usergroup Permissions
- The Debug tool is not recognizing a recent user who bypassed moderation and created spam.
Could you please:
- Advise how to ensure that all new users must have their first posts approved
- Help troubleshoot why the Debug tool is not recognizing a recent user who bypassed moderation and created a spam post.
Thank you for your help—I appreciate your guidance in resolving this.
Hi @jeanne ,
This problem is fixed in 3.0.4 version, please update. Also make sure the Spam Protection is enabled in wpForo > Settings > Spam Protection admin page.
Thank you both. Will try to do that.
