I used your slick tool to migrate from PHPBB to WPForo. I created and transferred the avatars and attachments as directed.

Because I had multiple attachments at PHPBB, I purchased and installed the advanced WPForo attachment add on.

But even with following all the instructions, Im still not seeing the attachments that were transferred.

Am I missing something Simple?

Thanks

Will

Forum to Forum migration is a large project. We’re sorry but we cannot support issues arisen during your forum migration. We only support questions related on how to use and configure this tool on the wpForo support forum. We don’t support the result of migration. This kind of large work is out of our support.

In case you want to say thank you 😊
We'd really appreciate and be thankful if you leave a good review on plugin page. This is the best way to say thank you to this project and support team.

I fully understand your position, but I was hoping that there may be some suggestions of something that may help.

Im thinking maybe I mis named a folder or something like that.

Anyone got any ideas? Anyone willing to take a look inside for a fee?

Thanks

Can I ask this question?

What would happed to existing members in the NEW WPforo “IF” I did another migration using your tool and seeing if the attachments appear?

If I did this, would newly transferred members that have reset their passwords, would the new migration override those new Passwords?

Thanks

Hi Will @webmasterstinsonclub-org

(1) Stand alone Forums, like PHPBB, has its own User Tables, with specific User IDs, specific Topic IDs that they created, and Attachment or Media file IDs.

wpForo uses the WP User Tables, and the simplicity of WP is its Username, and the email attached to this user name.

Here's an example:  We can look at it like how MS Word might handle a Mail Merge.

There are "labels" for field names like: (1) First Name, (2) Last Name,  (3) Street 1 Address, (4) Street 2 Address, (5) City, (6) State, (7) Zip Code, and (8) Country, in that order.  Resulting to 8 labels corresponding to these fields.

If we will use another software that has labels and field names like: (1) Last Name, (2) First Name, (3) Country, in that order, the resulting merge would not be satisfactory, since  only three labels and fields will get migrated (or mail merged), with the labels and fields (1) and (2) cris-crossed.

You need to find a way to make sure that the "labels" and "fields" from point A matches or properly "mapped" to the "labels" and "fields" in point B.

(2) I don't know how big your forum is, or how big your backed up database is, but what I can suggest is for you to save a copy of your PHP database in excel in csv format, and then take note of the specific "fields" from your PHPBB title rows.

Then also export a copy of your wpForo database, and then also take note of the specific fields that it has.  Then you will be able to see which field maps to where, before you do the "mail merge" - that's the closest example I can think of when it comes to explaining migrations.  🙂

Sofy explained it in this post too:

Hi Joel,

Use the phpMyAdmin Database tool in Hosting Service cPanel. Open database, end export wp_wpforo_posts and wp_wpforo_topics tables with CSV or SQL format.

(3) That might be problematic - for existing usernames, it will be overwritten, and it will be the same principle as the "mail merge" analogy above.  If the fields do not map out exactly, from the "source" to the "target location" fields, it will just corrupt your database with "not synced" data.

(4) It most probably would override passwords, plus issues on (3) .

What you might consider is doing a "data cleanup", or you can hire a developer as well, I think the wpForo Support Team recommends some Tech Teams who handle migrations, too.

Here's one:   https://wpforo.com/community/wpforo-showcase/land-surveyors-community/

I hope this helps somehow point you to the direction you need to go for your Forum. I'm just a member here who try to help when I can.   Good luck and God bless you!

Hi @webmasterstinsonclub-org,

1. First of all, please do a full backup of the database.

2. During the users' migration process there won't be users duplication. This means that if it finds the user with email@email.com (that already exists in your new wpForo forum) it won't create the new user it will merge the content with this user content.

3. Before starting the migration, in wpForo please manually remove the previously migrated forums from Dashboard > Forums admin page to escape the content duplication.

4. Please open the phpbb_attachments table find the physical_filename column, please check the path and make sure you've correctly filled the path in "Full path to PHPBB attachments folder" section. Please see the example below:

If the full path is:

C:/folder/Pictures/jimi-hendrix-8150.jpg

and in the physical_filename column, there is just the following path:

jimi-hendrix-8150.jpg

you should fill the following path in the "Full path to PHPBB attachments folder" connection section: C:/folder/Pictures/

In some of the phpBB versions, the names of the attachments are not ended with *.jpg, *.png, *.zip extensions, in such cases the attachments are stored in phpBB fils system without any extension ( hashed filenames ). You should find the folder where the attachments are stored, copy it and paste to the WordPress file system there the go2wpforo tool is installed.  Please check one more time and make sure the path in "Full path to PHPBB attachments folder" section is correct as explained above.
