Hello!

I am seriously considering this plugin (I mean Q&A format, if necessary with add-ons). However, some aspects related to its functionality remain unclear to me. I'll try to keep them as short as possible, and for most of them simple no/yes answers would do:

1. Does it support multi-languages?

2. Best answer goes up to the first position?

3. Does search provide for autosuggest?

4. E-mail notifications for following questions?

5. Option to follow (subscribe to) certain categories?

6. Supports wp registrations & login?

7. Count of views for questions?

8. Can anonymous users post?

9. Can community members be assigned the right to moderate q/a? If yes, how does moderation take place?

10. Are categories displayed in the sidebar?

11. Are related (not just recent) questions listed underneath (like in Quora)?

12. Option to filter questions by views, answers, votes, unanswered only?

13. Do I understand correctly that user reputation is based on the number of posts they make only?

14. Option to have a leaderboard in the sidebar?

15. Social sharing option?

16. "Ask question" button can be integrated on every page of a website? In any position?

Sorry for so many questions and thank you in advance!

Best regards, JB

Dear @spider

A short follow-up: I just checked the Q&A layout demo and would like to ask you whether you are sure that it is possible to subscribe to specific categories (not questions)? There is no list of categories in the sidebar. Thus, I don't see how it would be possible to subscribe to those... What concerns related questions (quora format), I also see only recent posts and recent topics, which implies that this feed is given on the basis of being recent, not really related. So, are you sure there is the functionality of "related questions"?

Sincerely, BJ

Hi @bj77,

Thank you for your interest in wpForo and for contacting us!

@spider has already answered almost on all your questions, but there is some extra information I'd like to add.

Can anonymous users post?

You can enable Guest posting in wpForo. However, there is no option to allow users to post anonymously. The guests cannot miss the name or email. They must fill it. More info in this post:

https://wpforo.com/community/how-to-and-troubleshooting-2/how-to-allow-guest-can-post-with-not-required-author-name-email/

Do I understand correctly that user reputation is based on the number of posts they make only?

Yes, users reputation is based on the number of posts, however, wpForo allows you to set custom reputation to certain users. More info here:

https://wpforo.com/docs/root/members/member-reputation/#set-custom-reputation-to-a-user

I see you've asked questions about the subscription feature, please read this doc to get more info:

https://wpforo.com/docs/root/gdpr/right-to-restrict-processing/

Here you can find the wpForo Q&A layout demo forum. Please check it out: https://wpforo.com/community/qa-layout-how-to-and-troubleshooting/

Thank you @spider for your support.

Dear @sofy, thank you very much for the additional information! When you say "custom reputation", does it mean that it is done manually on a case-by-case basis? You see, in general, wpforo seems really a nice choice, however for a q&a format it is really strange and even problematic to have a reputation system that relies on a number of posts only. Not on their quality determined by upvotes, likes, etc. Don't you think so?

yes, the forum admins can manually change the member's reputation.

however for a q&a format it is really strange and even problematic to have a reputation system that relies on a number of posts only. Not on their quality determined by upvotes, likes, etc. Don't you think so?

We'll discuss this with our team.

A short follow-up: I just checked the Q&A layout demo and would like to ask you whether you are sure that it is possible to subscribe to specific categories (not questions)?

Yes, this is possible. please read the doc I've provided. As mentioned in the doc:

There are three types of subscriptions in wpForo:

  • Subscribe to Forum (get notified about all topics and posts)
  • Subscribe to Individual Forum (get notified about new topics in this forum)
  • Subscribe to Individual Topic (get notified about all replies in this topic)

Forum Subscription: https://wpforo.com/docs/root/topics-posts/forum-topic-subsciption/
Topic Subscription: https://wpforo.com/docs/root/members/member-subscriptions-page/

Dear @sofy, thank you so much for your swift reply! Still, it seems to me that subscription to a topic is somewhat more natural for a forum format and not exactly the same as a subscription to a category which would look natural for a q&a format.

What about this one?: What concerns related questions (quora format), I also see only recent posts and recent topics, which implies that this feed is given on the basis of being recent, not really related. So, are you sure there is the functionality of "related questions"?

If you visit the following link and scroll a bit down you'll see the related topic section:

https://wpforo.com/community/qa-layout-how-to-and-troubleshooting/qa-support-layout/

The related topics based on the tags, it there is no tags added under topic there will not be any related topics.

Ok, thank you! I would suggest that this is added to the wpforo demo because now you cannot see that there is a related-topic section. In addition, I have to note that for Q&A style it would be more appropriate to have a related-question, not related-topic section. Wpforo is truly an outstanding plugin. However, it seems to me that it was created as a forum plugin with Q&A format evolving later as some kind of "sub-project". Thus, there is a number of functions and titles that do not really seem to belong to Q&A format (like it is with the user reputation system).

Sincerely, BJ
