Connect to your file system using a FTP client like FileZilla or the File manager of your Hosting cPanel. Then delete the /wpforo/ folder from the /wp-content/plugins/ directory.

Then, go to Dashboard > Plugins admin page and install the new 2.1.4 version.

You'll not lose any content. Just delete the plugin files and and install the new version.

I sent a mail to my host earlier about the issue and i got a response from them that the site /wp-admin is working, when i checked it opened.

so I upgraded the wpforo plugin to version 2.1.4, I cleared the cache and flushed permalinks and the links started opening gradually. As at now all the links are working fine from my end.

What could've caused this? because no plugins are on auto-update or should i enable auto-update for wpforo plugin?

Yes, please disable the auto-update for wpForo. We don't recommend using it for all plugins.
