On our forum, some sub-forums are restricted, and only administrators have access to them, other people have "no access" rights.
When these "no access" people want to manage their subscriptions, they don't see these restricted sub-forums in the list, and thus can't check them to receive emails from them.
Up to this point, everything is normal...
...BUT, when these people check every forums they can access to receive emails, they ALSO receive emails concerning the restricted sub-forums!
I checked the wpforo_subscribes table in the database, the records concerned have the "type" field filled with "forums-topics". Is that normal?

This is a serious issue for us, because unauthorized members can see private messages.
Do you intend to correct this soon?
I have same problem. Sofy answers on 15 November 2019; "Issue will be fixed in next version". I have installed wpForo Forum 1.7.0 on 03.02.2020 but issue is not solved. Please check, this is a serious problem for us.

I think there were not be such issue. This was just an incorrect configuration. Please edit each forum and sub-forum of your forum hierarchy and set No Access for those Usergroup you want to disable access. I think you've only set this permission for the top category or for the top forum but not for each sub forum, so the problem persist in your forum.
Hi Martin, thanks for your comment. But I did set the permission for each category incl. sub forums. The Usergroup 1 with permission for only Forum 1 indeed sees only Forum 1 and don't have acces to other Forums. So far everything is ok. But when a member of Usergroup 1 subscribe to all new posts and topics he receive notifications also for restricted Forums.

Please explain what subscription way you mean saying this "But when a member of Usergroup 1 subscribe to all new posts and topics", how are they subscribed to all topics and posts?
