A lot of webmasters struggle with fake user registrations just to create Spam Profiles. I see several people here asking for help on that.

There are solutions for Wordpress but i guess most webmasters can't or won't try security plugins, for their own reasons.

So i would like to suggest two OPTIONAL settings for wpForo profiles.

1. New users can't fill/create a profile unless they participate with XXX posts. Why someone create a profile if he has no posts? The ONLY reason is for spam link from some other site (backlinks).

2. New users can't fill/create a profile, if some time period of xxx days or hours is passed.

Those are not my ideas actually, they are used heavily in standalone php forums.

Actually, wpForo has similar options, you can find that options in Dashboard > Forums > Tools > Antispam Tab > New Registered User Field.

One of the best solutions to stop robot spam is to use reCAPTCHA and/or Akismet

@chris What all that have to do with Profiles Spam? Sorry but there is no option right now in wpForo for what i posted above.

As for reCaptcha, most people reporting here have that activated, probably not enough. Also reCaptcha is actually a torture for users.

I think this is a good idea. We'll add another option in New Registered User controlling section to restrict adding any data in About and Signature fields.

Also, we're planning to add "User Approval" system in the next 2.0 major version. So forum admins should approve users. Without the approval, users can do nothing.

This "manual approval" method (with some plugin for now) never eased my life as a webmaster.

Manually approve someone that i have no idea who he is and what he wants. Also i must be 24/365 online to approve or not users. Some users get upset for waiting to be approved.

Anyways, i'm not saying not to include it, i just post my personal view of things. I do not like to torture users with any way and i also never used any reCaptchas for that reason anywhere.

Did this addition get made?  I don't see it and think it would be very valuable in controlling human spam signups looking for backlinks in their profiles.  Thanks.

@thedailyhoosier,

That option will be in wpForo 2.0 version
