I don't know the best method to achieve this but I need some help with a hook or modifying the recent.php theme file to exclude a particular topic out of the Recent Post page.
Please help!

You can make the current topic private and set who can view private topics,
you can do that from the Dashboard > Forums > Settings > Forum Accesses Tab
By this way, private topics won't be visible in Recent posts.
@chris Thank you for your reply. I do want the members to be able to see the posts. I just would like them not to clutter the recent posts area. Example: We have a lot of new members just saying "hi" and introducing themselves which clogs up the recent posts with a lot of non-informative posts.
I do like that they are introducing themselves but I don't need these posts in the recent posts section.

There is no an easy way to check the recent posts of topics and exclude the topic from the list. This requires a lot of custom codding. I'm sorry, but this is out of our support scope.
