I don't like your hosting. Something is wrong with that, you're the only forum owner who is having such a strange issues. I think a simple vpn hosting would work many times better than yours. Something is wrong with your hosting MariaDB configuration.

Could it be down to all of the add ons I have maybe?

What would you suggest i tell my host? What are the ideal setting i needs for my server to have wpforo run best?

If you do not find the cause, you will never solve your issues, in this hoster or any hoster.

Going from ISAM to InnoDB and back, will not solve your issues and you will at some point HARM also your database (because not every version of them is compatible with each other).

If your Database server has too many connection under load, it is VERY EASY TO FIND IT. Enable Wordpress debug to  a log. In there you will see "Too Many Connections" or "Max users exceeded" or whatever message your server reports.

If your website goes down WITHOUT an error like that, then you have a HOSTING issue.

If your website goes down WITH the error of max connections exceeded, then something is over loading your DB.

And i will have to agree with @robert, your hosting doesn't seem much of help and also not stable enough.

@dimalifragis I haven't had many issues with them until a recently update the wpforo plugin.

I have 2 other sites on the same server that do not go down or haven't been effected by any of this, just the site with the forum on it.

The host tells me i get a lot of my sql demands to the server which overloads it. It comes from wpforo plug in.

What would you recommend for hosting if this isnt good enough? Everything was working fine before the recent wpforo update, really. So I am assuming it is something to do with that.

My server isnt going down, only my forum site

Well i offered as much help and ideas as a could.

Servers do not go down, they just reboot if correctly configured. Your database goes MIA for some reason and stays in than state.

Once again read my instuctions, check your raw logs, compare times and see what is wrong.

and we are back to 5 seconds load times again

I quit man, i dont think im ever going to find the cause of this, and i dont have funds to throw away at devs either.

Host tells me its you guys, you guys tell me its the host. Something is broken, there seems no way to find out what it is.

Feel like just quitting at this point. been near 2 weeks trying to find the problem and im still here stressed over it everyday.

The host has manged to restore my normal page speed by killing the mysql process

They also said this is the process causing the issues:

"A lot of queries like
8568 percysgr_wp03409 localhost percysgr_wp03409 Query 39509 Sending data WITH RECURSIVE `forum_path` AS( SELECT `forumid`, `parentid`, 0 AS `depth
`was causing the issue"

After killing the mysql process, the host saw that it was occurring again straight away.

They also said " it seems that same queries are being run multiple times."

And this: " We that the query is running and it gets stuck or lagged which causes the load on the server."

Does this help at all?

I've asked you to insert the hook code. Why have you not inserted it yet? Please do that. That hook code disables all recursive SQls.
