Hi guys,
Thank you very much for your prompt responses.
My issue is solved now.
I still do not know what went wrong.
I will describe a bit The situation here for other people that might have a similar issue.
As I said I use WPforo for more than a year now without any problem! But a few days ago, I got several emails from The monitoring of my website that it was going down and Then up again after a few minutes....and Then again down and up and so on...
I first contacted my hosting provider asking Them to investigate The issue. After Their investigation, They told me that WPforo makes too many requests and The CPU load of The server hits The limit.
I could also see it myself...whenever I was deactivating WPforo The server load was getting back to normal.
I tried to deactivate The other plugins and activate WPforo alone to see if There is any conflict There without any luck.About a week ago I had updated my Theme, and since this was one of The last changes to The website I thought to downgrade to The previous version. But that didn't work either.
Since I couldn't do anything else at that point I deactivated The forum completely for a few days until I find what's The issue and my hosting provider prompt me to contact The devs of The plugin which I did.
Meanwhile, They said that They will implement The suggestions of this article:
A few days later, when They finally implemented all The suggestions of The article above, I re-activated WPforo to test if There is any improvement.
For a few minutes (3-4 mis) everything seemed to be fine...but Then The CPU load went all The way up again and The website went down...I had to rename WPforo's folder from my SFTP account to deactivate The plugin and bring The website back to life. But this time, when I deactivated The plugin The server load didn't go down! I renamed The whole plugins folder to deactivate all The plugins, but still nothing. I switched to The default WP Theme but no luck with this either.
At this point, it was clear to me that There is sth else that was wrong. So I contacted The hosting provider once again explaining that The server load is stuck at 100% without any plugin activated and with The default Theme.
After a while, They came back to me saying that There was a "service stuck on my website" and that They restarted that service and The server load was back to normal.
I switched back to my Theme, and I started activating all The plugins one by one (I started with WPforo) and I was checking The website after each activation.
I activated all The plugins and The website is up and running smoothly, as it used to, for more than 24hours now.
It seems that whatever "service" was stuck now it's not..and The problem seems to be solved. I wish I could give more details but that's exactly how things happened for me.
Thank you very much for trying to help me. in case The problem comes back I will make sure to contact you by email. |

Error 502 Bad Gateway With Woocommerce

I recently began getting Error 502 Bad Gateway Error When creating a new topic or replying a post. The post gets created but instead of directing back to The created post it hangs for several seconds and Then displays The bad Gateway error. I have also experienced this on just trying to view a post (not replying or creating)
I tried clearing my browser cache and cookies (Firefox) and this fixes it temporarily because on first refresh The correct page loads. But refresh again and The error comes back.
I read on some other threads that it could be a conflict with another plugin and to disable all plugins and enable Them one by one.
I did this and was able to isolate it to woocommerce. Now when i deactivate woocommerce The error stops but when i reactivate it The error continues.
Both wpforo and woocommerce plugins are essential to The function of my website.
All my plugins are updated.
How do i solve this?
I am using a digital ocean server on cloudways.com hosting. |

Hi Anonymous20,
Thanks for your reply, but to be more precise on The issue, we have two forums on our site : - one forum is private and used by 17 persons : no 504 error in this forum when publishing a message, and a normal time to validate a new message. - The other forum is opened to every users, around 2000 persons, and everyone has subscribed to every message, so many notifications emails are send through POST SMTP each time a new message is published. It is in this forum that we have this issue, with a VERY long time after you validate The new messag ... |

@garylue,
Please note The server size is The same in each place. Just in one place, it set via KB, in The second place is via MB, thus The values are different.
Thank you for your reply. I am curious that if The server limit is 64 mb, why am I allowed 800 mb in The base WPForo but not Advanced Attachments? The wpForo Advanced Attachments designed to work in The following way. It doesn't allow to set The value high Then The server limit. Even if you increase The values, The server doesn't allow you to upload The file highest Then The server size. However, The default wpForo didn't configure in this way. So you can set The value highest Then The server value, but you can't upload The file highest Then The server size, in this case too. Also as you can see in The screenshot provided below, it says "You can not set this value more than "upload_max_filesize" and "post_max_size". If you want to increase server parameters please contact your hosting service support."
So please contact your hosting service support and ask Them to increase These values. |

For The last 3 weeks I have been working with my hosting company trying to figure The cause of The 502 Bad Gateway error. The host company says it is not a hosting issue. The 502 Bad Gateway error is only seen by old logged in users when Forum Cookies is Enabled. If users mark "all read" it sometimes fixes The problem for some users. Any expertise would be appreciated. |

Hi Anonymous20,
Thank you so much for your advice ! I installed GD mail queue in place of POST SMTP, and it works again, without 504 error ! There is just one problem remaining : it seems that when you click on "ADD REPLY" to publish a new message, The plugin takes The time to prepare The list of subscribed users (by checking The Wpforo Subscribes table, I suppose) to send The notification emails, BEFORE it gives back hand and publish The message.
And when you have many subscribers as we have, it takes a VERY LONG time (around 90 seconds), so The publishe ... |

Create a forum that only Admin can post Topics, but anyone can respond - can it be done?

Kind of a strange request and I suspect it isn't possible, but I thought I'd ask you forum geniuses anyway!
I want to make a section on my forum that only an Admin (i.e. myself) can create a new Topic in, however, once The topic is created I want any registered member to be able to respond and add to it, just like a normal topic.
I have looked in The permissions and I don't see a way of doing this, but of course, I might be missing something.
Is this possible?
Thank you, and Happy 2021 to everyone! |

Hi Robert,
As far as I know, The only job of GD Mail queue is to intercept emails to be sent with PHP mail and queue Them.
I don't see why it could be incompatible with Wpforo. The fact is that it's a solution that solved my "504 error" problem, an this is The most important.
I'm glad to read that Wpforo checks susbscribers after submitting The post, ... but in this case, how do you explain that with a private forum with only 17 susbscriptions The submitting duration is a few seconds, whereas with our open forum (several hundreds of subscribers), this duration is about 90 seconds?

After this They are not able to import all data to your server because of your server poor resources and limits. Please contact Them and provide all necessary data (FTP etc) to allow Them upload wpForo database and file attachments to your server
This is because They were trying to install it on The wrong (old) server, not The new server with The access information I provided to Them days ago. It's a matter of simply reading Their emails, it's obvious that They received The emails since They managed to answer some of Them. I was careful to respond in The same email thread in order to maintain The conversation. Throughout The process, I also asked a couple of other questions that went completely unanswered. I would be happy to provide a full transcript of The email conversation to anyone who is interested. |

Does WPForo work with server level cache? Is WPForo's cache system scalable?

We're working through our forums setup. Caching came up today. And yes, I have read The FAQ about cache software. This post does not concern plugin caching systems.
We have no caching plugins. We do have both a server cache and Cloudflare edge cache. Both of These caching systems are very good and scale well. We have had problems with WPDiscuz features that ended up locking up our site under load. So I am concerned that if we add rules disabling our server and cloudflare caches that The built in caching system will not scale with load. The site sees very heavy peak traffic on weekend mornings, something like 120K page views over 4-6 hours. This traffic caused The "live update" function of WPDiscuz to bring The site to a full stop (hosted on a very powerful AWS server).
Have you have tested WPForo's caching system under heavy loads?
Can WPForo's cache be disabled in favor of a server cache?
Have you tested compatibility with server level caching system or with Cloudflare?
Thanks,Kim |

Hi @akiarostami ,
This might happen because of any of The following scenarios:
1) The WordPress translation from English to Persian, specifically The "dates" (and The calculations that go with it) did not get translated properly, or
2) The wpForo server requirements of wpForo to function properly, as compared to your own server (you can compare your server information (Forum Dashboard > Tools > Debug Tab > "Server" and you can also check "Errors & Issues" in The same tab.
Or it could be other things, my guess is as good as yours. 🙂
But if for now, you just want to hide The "Date" that comes before "ago" on your Forum page, you can try and use The code below: (I also tested it on my forum, before I posted it here).
Here's how to hide The "date or time" before "ago" on your main forum page:
Go to Forum Dashboard > Settings > Styles Then on The Custom CSS Code Box, add this code:
div.wpforo-last-topic-date { display: none !important;}
Hope this helps. Or I don't know if The codes are also translated, or if it is just The phrases. 🙂 (If it does work for your Persian Forum, please mark this topic as "Solved" so that The Support Team can close The topic (and also, so that you and I will not get email notifications on this thread ten years from now. 🙂 ) I tested The above code and it works in my English version of The Forum.
Good luck and God bless you! (And I can't read Persian, I am also just a member here). |

Some members getting 500 Internal Error when viewing or posting

Hi team, I have 2 members who have reported this problem, and one of Them is our moderator/admin, so we can't get any answers to forum questions. They report getting this error once They login and view a random number of forum posts (2-5) successfully and Then They get The error on Their next forum link click. They also get it if They try add a topic or a reply. If They login fresh, and try add topic or reply it goes to internal server Error. But if They login again fresh, Their post or reply has saved.
But as soon as They try click on it, it goes to error (I have copy and pasted The error text from Chrome below).
Because The problem is user based, we think it's perhaps a redirect or cookie based issue (with a looping redirect). But when I login as one of The affected customers I can replicate it on my browser. But as an admin in The forum I don't get The error. So perhaps it's not cookie based??
We checked The logs in Memberium on our site in WP Admin, and it has an error log here but that same error log exists nowhere else on The server.
Have tried changing Themes and deactivated all other plugins.
What do you advise? -------------------------------------------------------------- internal server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact The server administrator at webmaster@members.theonlinedogtrainer.com to inform Them of The time this error occurred, and The actions you performed just before this error.
More information about this error may be available in The server error log.
Additionally, a 500 internal server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle The request. |

The thread itself contains majorly GIF format posts; I'm guessing Then one of those GIF's might be causing The issue?
Yes, that's can be The reason. You can turn The oEmbed on, just check The embedded data, sometimes They maybe very heavy and problematic. |
