I'm sorry but it's only available for the Q&A layout, there is no such option for Extended, Simplified and Threadedlayouts. You can see sorting options in this Q&A topic: https://wpforo.com/community/qa-layout-bug-reports/qa-forum-description-is-not-displayed-on-home-page-or-forum-page/

I was looking for the best script to handle comments / ratings. I found and installed wpForo. I see hundreds of different options in the panel, but I don't see the most obvious - sort order (newest first).
I really need to look for another script to change the sort order of entries ???
Maybe it can be changed by editing any file?
Is it just me or there's no option to sort the topics by name?
